As you would expect from a fax marketing company, we have dealt with dozens of water cooler firms down the years and sent tens of millions of adverts for them.

In 2003, the market started to change from bottled coolers to the types that were fixed to the mains. Before the water comes out of the cooler, it is thoroughly filtered and, in many people's opinions, tastes even better than out of a bottle.

On this page, we go back to March 2004 to show one of the initial designs. The style of designs hasn't changed that much since - the only real difference being more emphasis on the quality of the water.

Objective Whenever anything new is launched, it takes a little time for customers to get used to the change. The same is true with water coolers.

For this campaign and for others in the same field, the big push was originally to get across mainly the financial benefits to plumbed-in coolers. As time went on, companies became more used to the idea and the advertising message moved more across to the quality of the water.

The goal of this campaign was to get people to take a free trial to test the water themselves.

Being based in Southampton, our customer wanted to go for companies with over 5 members of staff on the South Coast.

As a rule, water cooler companies tend to concentrate on businesses of this size as it gives them a better opportunity of fitting more than one unit at a site.
What were the results? For an early adopter email, the results were encouraging. Email's average response rate is 1 in 1,000 emails, and both the customer and we were expecting a worse result because the technology was new.

Trials resulted from every 1,800 or so emails sent, meaning a low finders fee average in comparison to other marketing methods. With today's campaigns, the results are even better for all our customers.

   
All figures given are based on customer correspondence with us. Email marketing is a form of advertising, and as with all advertising it can be successful as well as unsuccessful. We do not guarantee any level of response. On average, for every 1,000 email sent out, there are 1-2 opt outs, even fewer than fax broadcasting! When we receive an opt-out, we remove the number from all databases to ensure they are never emailed by us or the pool participants again.
